About This

  • HOW TO USE: Using the soil probe is easy. Simply insert the pointed end into the soil and push as deep as you can, then slowly pull up. This will take a sample of the soil at several layers allowing you to see and feel the moisture levels throughout the pot. Watch video for a demonstration.
  • NO BATTERY REQUIRED: This soil tester is portable as it requires no batteries or electricity to use. Reading the soil result is manual. See and feel the extracted soil in the rungs on the probe to detect moisture level and determine if the plant needs more water.
  • EASY TO READ: For most houseplants you'll want to make sure that the soil at the bottom of the pot maintains an even and consistent moisture, but is not soaked or soggy. Note that some species prefer to dry out more than others. Research your specific plant's watering needs and use the soil probe to help determine when your plant is ready for more water.
  • HAPPIER AND HEALTHIER PLANTS: With more accurate watering and aerated soil your houseplants will thrive long term.
  • MATERIALS: Made from solid brass. Brass cannot carry or transfer pests or pathogens. Brass will tarnish. To keep the soil probe looking its brightest, rub down with brass polish periodically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about growing a beautiful garden

The best time to plant vegetables depends on your climate zone. Generally, cool-season crops like lettuce and peas thrive in early spring, while warm-season crops like tomatoes and peppers should be planted after the last frost date.
Most gardens need about 1 inch of water per week, either from rainfall or irrigation. Water deeply but less frequently to encourage strong root growth. Early morning is the best time to water to minimize evaporation and disease.
Loamy soil with good drainage is ideal for most plants. It should be rich in organic matter, have a pH between 6.0-7.0, and retain moisture while allowing excess water to drain. Adding compost annually improves soil structure and fertility.
Companion planting, crop rotation, and encouraging beneficial insects are effective natural pest control methods. Marigolds deter many pests, while ladybugs and lacewings eat aphids. Regular inspection and hand-picking larger pests also helps.
